Condanna a cinque anni per i mittenti dei presunti pacchi bomba a Neil Lennon

Pair jailed over Lennon parcel bombs

Two men have been jailed for five years each for sending parcel bombs to Celtic manager Neil Lennon.

Trevor Muirhead - Neil McKenzieThe Lurgan man was one of a number of high profile Celtic fans targeted by Trevor Muirhead and Neil McKenzie.

Former MSP Trish Godman and the late QC Paul McBride, along with people at the republican organisation Cairde Na hEireann were also sent improvised explosive devices.

Muirhead, 44, of Kilwinning and 42-year-old McKenzie of Saltcoats, both Ayrshire, were sentenced at the High Court in Glasgow on Friday.

During the five week trial, it was revealed that McKenzie claimed to have learned how to make a hoax bomb after watching The A-Team on TV.

The four packages, which were not viable, were discovered last spring.

One of the packages, which was addressed to Cairde Na hEireann in Glasgow was returned to Royal Mail’s National Returns Centre in Belfast, where it was found to contain potentially explosive peroxide.

The pair were originally accused of conspiring to murder their targets but the charge was thrown out a day before the trial concluded due to insufficient evidence.

Instead they were found guilty of sending devices they believed were capable of exploding and causing severe injury.

McKenzie was also sentenced to 18 months, which will run at the same time as his five-year sentence, after being found guilty of a separate charge of posting a hoax bomb to Lennon at Celtic Park to make him believe it was likely to explode.

Muirhead was cleared of the charge with a not proven verdict.
