Aggredito Seamus Daly, accusato per Omagh

Omagh bombing suspect attacked

A man accused of having a role in the Omagh bombing has been attacked in the Irish Republic.

Seamus DalySeamus Daly required hospital treatment after he was beaten up by a number of men in Carrickmacross, County Monaghan on Friday night.

A civil case brought by some of the Omagh families accuses him and four others of participating in the attack which killed 29 people.

Judgement in the case is expected to be delivered next week.

BBC Panorama reporter John Ware, who has investigated the bombing, has said police believed Daly was the “hands-on” organiser.

Panorama also revealed that mobile phone evidence linked Daly to car bombings in Lisburn and Banbridge as well as Omagh.

In 2000 John Ware confronted Daly but he refused to make any comment.

In 2004 a Dublin court sentenced Daly to three and a half years in jail after he admitted being a member of an illegal organisation.
