Bloody Sunday: il Rapporto Saville atteso per giugno

Saville report due for June release

Bloody Sunday: il funerale delle vittimePreparations are being made in Derry for the imminent release of the Bloody Sunday Inquiry report.

There is speculation that the report of the inquiry team headed by Lord Saville will be published in London in three weeks’ time in the middle of June.

Relatives of those killed and injured have been critical of delays in releasing the findings of the inquiry.

During a visit to Belfast last week, British Prime Minister David Cameron told Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness the report would be made public within weeks, rather than months.

Thirteen people died after British paratroopers opened fire during a civil rights march in Derry in January 1972. A 14th victim died later.

Arrangements are being finalised to let the families access the report before it is formally presented to the British parliament.

On the morning of publication, it is likely the Guildhall in Derry will be given over to the relatives and their legal teams to study the findings.

Lord Saville opened the investigation at the Guildhall in 1998 and heard from over 900 witnesses, including 245 soldiers who gave evidence in London.

The inquiry finished its hearings in 2004 and the report was initially due for publication the following year. It is estimated to have cost nearly £200m.
