Police label 1000lb bomb report as “speculation”
A report that a 1000lb dissident bomb had been abandoned on the Newry bypass, has been described as “purely speculation” by police.
According to this morning’s Belfast Telegraph, the massive device was twice the size of the Omagh bomb.
However, a PSNI spokesman declined to confirm or deny if a bomb had been discovered on the 40ft lorry at the centre of yesterday’s security alert, decribing the newspaper report as “purely speculation”.
The police would only confirm that a “number of items were taken away for investigation”
