Cameron makes Ulster visit

PRIME Minister David Cameron is making his first visit to Northern Ireland since taking up office.

David Cameron | 10 Downing StreetMr Cameron – who replaced Gordon Brown last Tuesday – will meet First Minister Peter Robinson and Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness at Stormont.

He is also expected to speak with other local party leaders in separate talks.

The Prime Minister will be accompanied by newly appointed Secretary of State, Owen Paterson.

Earlier this month, Mr Cameron visited Belfast ahead of the General Election to address members of the Ulster Unionist Party.

The Conservatives formed an electoral alliance with the UUP for the Westminster poll. However, the Conservatives and Unionists were unable to win any seat.

Earlier on Thursday, the Prime Minister released comprehensive details of the coalition agreement with the Liberal Democrats.

In relation to Northern Ireland, the document outlines the government’s commitment to “promote peace, stability and economic prosperity” in the Province.

It also indicates a willingness to produce a government paper examining potential mechanisms for changing the corporation tax rate in Northern Ireland.
