Derry: sassi contro la PSNI. E spari nella notte

SHOTS FIRED AS POLICE USE TEAR GAS TO QUELL TROUBLE IN DERRY CITY

Leafair Gardens, Galliagh, Derry

THE PSNI say officers used tear gas after they came under attack by youths throwing masonry in Derry last night.

In a night of wanton destruction, shots were also reported to have been fired

At around 9.50 pm on Wednesday police attended the Leafair Gardens in the Galliagh area of the city following reports of youths causing a disturbance.

They had earlier been seen drinking, fight and urinating in public areas.

Whilst in attendance, police vehicles came under attack by youths throwing heavy masonry.

Two police vehicles were substantially damaged. There were no injuries sustained.

Police used CS spray to bring the situation under control.

A 17-year-old man was arrested for disorderly behaviour and was later released to be reported to the PPS.

Police also received reports in the early hours of Thursday April 9 that shots had been fired in the Leafair area of Derry at approximately 11.20pm.

Enquiries are continuing into these reports.

Inspector Jonathan Cooke said: “I would appeal to anyone who has any information about these incidents to contact Police on the non-emergency number 101.

“Or, if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
