Dove sono finiti i 12,5 milioni di sterline usati per Maze?

Criticism of £12.5m Maze spend

Almost £12.5m has been spent on redeveloping the site of the former Maze Prison, it has emerged.

Maze | Long KeshThe figure has been revealed by Alliance MLA Trevor Lunn, following a question to the First and Deputy First Ministers’ office.

Plans to turn the area into a new multi sports stadium were scrapped last year.

The proposal had divided opinion, leading to the sports minister then saying it did not enjoy sufficient political consensus.

It is understood over £3.5m spent on consultancy fees for this project are included in the total spend.

Mr Lunn has said he does not know where the rest of the money has been used: “I think it’s just an accumulation of different items over a period of years but my main concern is the lack of product.

“In April last year we were told a new body – the Maze Development Corporation – was being set up by the First and Deputy First Ministers’ Office,” Mr Lunn indicated.

“But now that body, according to the answer to one of my questions, has not yet been formed – 13 months on. I want them to get on with it.”
