DUP respinge rapporto sui Troubles

DUP rejects report on Troubles

The DUP has officially rejected the Eames Bradley Report on the past.

Eames-BradleyThe party has reaffirmed its view that there can be no moral or legal equivalence between innocent victims and terrorists.

In a 12-page response to the report, DUP leader Peter Robinson said its most reprehensible recommendation was the proposed £12,000 payment to victims.

He said the error was compounded by the inclusion of the families of dead terrorists in the scheme.

The Consultative Group on the Past is an independent group set up to deal with the legacy of Northern Ireland’s Troubles, during which more than 3,000 people died.

It proposed that the families of paramilitary victims, members of the security forces and civilians who were killed would all be entitled to a £12,000 payment .

This was one of more than 30 recommendations the group made in its 190-page report published at the start of this year.

In August, one of the report’s authors, former priest Denis Bradley said he would fight on for the payment to be made.

His co-chair of the group, Lord Eames, has since admitted it may have been a mistake.

Northern Ireland Secretary of State Shaun Woodward subsequently ruled out the £12,000 payment.
