Ex soldati UDR minacciati dai repubblicani
Former UDR soldiers warned of dissident threat
About a dozen former Ulster Defence Regiment soldiers in Mid-Ulster have been warned they are under threat from dissident republicans.
The group met with the PSNI’s divisional commander for the area, Superintendent Brian Kee, in Cookstown on Wednesday to discuss their safety.
They were advised to take precautions with regard to their personal security as a result of the threat.
It is understood they have been under surveillance since late last year.
The police told the group they would keep in contact with them and inform patrols of the situation.
Cookstown UUP councillor, Trevor Wilson, has appealed to dissident republican groups to withdraw the threats and urged anyone with information to contact the police immediately.
“It is a terrible time for these former soldiers who have served their country over the past 30 years,” he said.
“It is not only a stress to them but to their immediate families.”
