Hydebank protest – Free Marian Price!
Marian Price today remains ill in the Hospital wing of Hydebank prison as a result of the decision to have her Interned which was ordered by the British Tory secretary of state Owen Paterson.
Marian was arrested at her home in May last year in the wake of a decision made by Westminster to have her removed from the political arena as her Republican ideologies did not sit well with those who now implement British rule in Stormont.
Marian was released in 1980 as a result of serious health implications following a prolonged Hunger strike in which she was strapped to a chair and force fed in excess of 400 times.
She received a full pardon.
Following her arrest in May, an admission was made by the British that the pardon she had received could not be located by them and they had most probably shredded the document thereby destroying the very item which would guarantee her freedom.
They had pre-prepared a wing in the all male Maghaberry gaol some months previously to house Marian in solitary confinement before her arrest .She was subsequently placed in isolation.
They stated that her license had been revoked and given the fact that they had destroyed the evidence which would have proved she had been released on a pardon, Marian remains in isolation, this time in the hospital wing of Hydebank prison as a result of a serious deterioration in her health.
Having received visits whilst in gaol by prominent politicians , they stated publicly that her condition was chronic, she had lost several stones in weight and was in severe arthritic pain. At a recent meeting in Derry which was called by Independent Human rights activists, one stated that she was totally unrecognisable, such were the effects on her health which had been brought on by her Internment and isolation.
The much lauded devolution of power to Stormont has been proven to be a veneer and a sham. The British government have shown that at any given time they can and will supersede the local puppet government in flexing their muscle and showing that they will circumvent European human rights laws with their either withholding or destruction of evidence together with their use of solitary confinement as a torture mechanism.
Marian Price has been illegally Interned by the British Tory government. This was a politically expedient and politically motivated act reminiscent of previous British governments which have subverted Human rights laws to subjugate Irishmen and women.
Marian is a 57 year old mother and grandmother who has been taken from her family and jailed purely and simply because her Republican ideologies lie at odds with the status quo of British rule in Ireland. She remains ill in the hospital wing of a British prison in Ireland and irony lies in the fact that the British trumping of Stormont shows that the Human rights of Irishmen and women in Ireland will continue to be trampled upon by the British old guard with the “Croppy lie down” attitude and treatment we have come to expect from them for hundreds of years.
Marian Price’s incarceration shows that the British position of serious miscarriages of justice imposed upon the Irish people is a thing of the present, not just the past.
