Il Consiglio di Castlereagh offre collaborazione su inchiesta Robinson

Council to co-operate with Robinson inquiry

Castlereagh Council has said it will co-operate with the police investigation into the financial affairs of former DUP MP Iris Robinson.

A BBC programme alleged that the First Minister’s wife got £50,000 from two property developers to set up her teenage lover Kirk McCambley in business.

The documentary further alleged that she kept £5,000 for herself.

She faces allegations that she did not declare an interest in the business when the contract was awarded to Mr McCambley by the council.

In a statement released on Friday the Office of the Chief Executive said: “it will, if requested, have regard to any requirements of the PSNI led investigation.”

The police inquiry will seek to establish whether any criminal offence has been committed by Iris Robinson and by any other person referred to in the programme.

Castlereagh Council is holding its own external investigation into the awarding of the lease for the Lock Keeper’s Inn in south Belfast.

It will examine whether the council incurred any financial loss from the awarding of the contract to Kirk McCambley.
