Car of policeman’s dad petrol bombed

Dissident republicans are being blamed for a petrol bomb attack on a car outside a police officer’s family home in Londonderry.

Petrol bomb a DerryThe Mazda was parked in the driveway of the Lone Moor Road property when the bomb was thrown through the rear driver side window at 9.30pm on Tuesday.

The house is that of former deputy mayor of Derry Liam Bradley, who has previously been targeted by dissident republicans.

Pat Ramsey of the SDLP says the attack was launched by dissidents because Mr Bradley’s son serves in the PSNI.

“No doubt those behind it are a small minority in the city of Derry who belong to the group known as dissident republicans,” he told UTV.

“They are intent on destroying anybody or anything belonging to any Catholic officer in the PSNI. The Bradley’s have a son in the police service who they are very proud of and it’s because of that they’re being targeted.

“To those responsible – I hope you’re proud of yourselves, because this is two older people.”

Police said the car was completely burnt out, but no-one was injured in the attack. A man in a balaclava was reportedly seen running off in the direction of the cemetery.

Anyone with information has been asked to come forward to assist police with their inquiries.
