La faida di Ballymurphy potrebbe ricominciare

Fears that ’Murph feud could reignite

An aunt of Gerard Devlin has said that she is living in fear for her life after receiving two death threats.

Gerard Devlin (39) was stabbed to death in February 2006 in Whitecliff Parade in Ballymurphy in a killing that sparked the ‘Ballymurphy feud’. His aunt, Kitty Loughran (61), received a death threat in late September and another recently. She was informed of the threats by the PSNI.

The great-grandmother says that the threats on her life were made following the abduction and severe beating of her youngest son in September. Her son, who does not wish to be named, was able to identify his attackers and their names were given the PSNI.

The second death threat stated that Kitty would be “executed” unless her son withdraws a statement he made to police.

Speaking to the Andersonstown News, the mother-of-seven said: “My youngest son was abducted on September 11 and taken away, they jumped all over his face, he was left for dead.”

Soon after the abduction, Kitty received the first death threat.

“After that I got a death threat, they said I would be executed if my son doesn’t withdraw his statement.

“I don’t want him to withdraw his statement.

“I am in fear for my life,” added Kitty.

A complaint has been made to the Police Ombudsman about the PSNI’s handling of the abduction case.

“I complained because they haven’t been arrested yet, no action has been taken,” said Kitty.

“I am taking the threats seriously,” she added.

A spokesperson for the PSNI said: “Detectives in West Belfast are investigating a report of abduction and assault on a 27-year-old male in the Lenadoon Avenue and Colin Glen Road areas on 11 September, 2009.

“Enquiries are ongoing.”

The spokesperson added that they do not discuss the security of individuals.

“Where we believe that anyone needs to review their security we take the appropriate steps to inform them. We never ignore anything which may put an individual at risk.”

A spokesman for the Police Ombudsman’s Office confirmed that they have received a complaint alleging that police have failed to properly investigate an incident near the Colin Glen Road on September 11 last year. “We are currently investigating that complaint.”
