Marcia repubblicana non autorizzata a Lurgan per chiedere rilascio di Martin Corey
Republicans defy police with Lurgan march
An illegal republican parade took place in Lurgan yesterday despite warnings from police that anyone involved could face prosecution.
The rally set off from the Kilwilkie estate in support of the Release Martin Corey campaign.
Double-murderer Corey (60) has been held in Maghaberry since last April after his licence was revoked.
He was handed a life sentence in 1973 after killing two RUC men in the same year.
He was released on licence in 1992, having served 19 years.
The Parades Commission last week said they were powerless to stop the march going ahead.
But police said they could take action against anyone involved, adding they had been attempting to contact the organisers ahead of the march.
The Parades Commission confirmed they had not been notified about the rally in advance.
It was not known last night if any arrests were made at yesterday’s parade.
