Teen, 17, shot in garden

A 17-year-old teenager has been shot in the thigh during a paramilitary-style attack at his family home in north Belfast.

Police officers | Poliziotti | PsniThe boy was taken to hospital following the incident in the Carlisle Road area of the city at around 6.30pm on Saturday.

Police said three masked men forced their way into the house and took him into the garden where they shot him for alleged anti-social behaviour.

The mother of the victim called police and the ambulance service.

North Belfast Sinn Féin Councillor Conor Maskey said: “The community of north Belfast has been at the centre of major disruption this week and are clear that they do not want blood on their streets.

“Those responsible for these attacks need to fall in behind the efforts, led by the community, to create safer streets in the New Lodge area rather than intimidating people with the use of guns.

“Such acts of reckless violence in the community will achieve nothing,” he added.

Anyone with information about the incident has been asked to contact detectives in north Belfast.
