Nuovo allarme sicurezza a North Belfast. Evacuate 50 abitazioni

North Belfast homes evacuated in security alert

A security alert has lead to the evacuation of homes and businesses in north Belfast.

Allarme sicurezza | Security alertPolice have said about 50 houses on Mountcollyer Avenue and some businesses on York Road have been evacuated.

Army technical officers are at the scene and York Road has been closed from Seaview Street to Brougham Street.

Crosscollyer Evangelical Church has been opened to accommodate those who have had to leave their homes.

North Belfast DUP MP Nigel Dodds has condemned those behind the alert.

“It is disgraceful that gangsters are leaving dangerous devices in public areas, causing a lot of disruption to businesses, to traffic and putting people out of their homes. They are not wanted in this area and they should know that they are not wanted, ” he said.

“This is a frightening incident coming on top of the terrible attempted bombing on the Antrim Road this week.

“These are appalling attacks, whether those responsible claim to come from a Republican and Loyalist background.”

UUP MLA for the area, Fred Cobain, has said there was “absolutely no support” within the community for such activity.

“The people of the York Road, just like those of the Antrim Road, simply wish to live their lives in peace and not have their day to day business disrupted by bomb or hoaxes. They certainly do not want to be forced from their homes or have their businesses closed,” he said.
