Oglaigh na hEireann dietro al ferimento di Derry

Dissident republicans claim responsibility for Derry shooting

A dissident republican group has claimed that they shot the man who was injured in a paramilitary style shooting in Derry last night and said he was associated with their grouping.

It is believed that the man who was shot in both legs in the Glenowen Park area of the city was recently released from prison where he had served a substantial sentence for dissident republican activities.

In a statement using a recognised code word the group known as Oglaigh Na h-Eireann claimed that they had shot the man for what they alleged were ‘anti-social activities’.

The group claimed that the individual had been involved in an incident with members of another dissident republican grouping in Derry around 10 days ago.

They alleged that they took action against the man after this incident.

It was the second shooting in Derry in a matter of days although it is believed that the group known as the IRA were behind the first incident on Monday night when a 23-year-old was shot in a bookmakers shop in the Creggan area.

There has been no claim of responsibility for that shooting.

The group Oglaigh Na h-Eireann have been relatively quiet in the Derry area for some years although they have a presence in County Derry where they have issued threats against people they describe as drug dealers and anti-social elements.

In 2010 they claimed responsibility for a bomb at the Strand Road PSNI barracks.
