Man arrested on suspicion of Toomebridge murder

A 41-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of the murder of a 28-year-old man who was attacked outside a bar in Toomebridge at the weekend.

The man was taken to Musgrave Police Station for questioning about James McDonagh from Castledawson, who died in hospital on Monday.

He was attacked outside the Elk Inn on the Hillhead Road in the early hours of Sunday morning and sustained a serious head injury.

Two men, aged 24 and 52, who were arrested on Sunday night remain in custody.

A 20-year-old man has been released on police bail pending further enquiries.

Detective Chief Inspector Eamonn Corrigan has continued to appeal to anyone who witnessed the incident outside the Elk Inn to contact detectives in Magherafelt on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
