Eight arrested over further Ardoyne disorder

The PSNI has announced that it made eight arrests on Sunday night in the continuing disorder across Belfast and Newtownabbey.

The trouble was sparked on Friday night at Ardoyne when three Orange lodges from Ligoniel were prevented from proceeding along the Crumlin Road past Ardoyne shops for the first time by a Parades Commission ruling.

Protests and disorder continued over the weekend with more parades attempting to pass.

The PSNI said they arrested eight people on Sunday.

In Newtownabbey, four 15-year-old boys and an 18-year-old man were arrested for riotous behaviour.

In North Belfast a 31-year-old man was arrested for possession of a petrol bomb and disorderly behaviour.

In East Belfast a 25-year-man was arrested for Resisting police and Disorderly Behaviour.

While in south Belfast, a 52-year-old man was arrested for public order offences relating to disorder in North Belfast on July 12.

A number of these persons have been charged to Belfast Magistrates Court this afternoon (Monday).

To date there have been 49 arrests linked to public order, 22 of these persons have been charged and attended court.
