Teenager charged with recording police on mobile phone
A teenager from Strabane has appeared in court in Dungannon accused of recording the movements of a car driven by a police officer on Wednesday.
The 17-year-old, who cannot be identified because of his age, is charged with having information of use to terrorists.
A detective constable said the youth claimed to have recorded the number plate to obtain an quote for insurance for a similar car he wanted to buy.
The teenager was released on bail.
District Judge John Meehan said that it was “an extremely sinister charge in the current climate”, but he was obliged to grant bail given the defendant’s age.
The court stipulated he must reside in an address in Londonderry.
He will appear again at Strabane Magistrates Court at a date yet to be fixed.
