Dissidents mount hunger strike protest

DISSIDENT republicans are to hold an overnight vigil in Londonderry in support of prisoner Colin Duffy whose daughter Caitríona is to commence a two day hunger strike this evening, Friday, May 8.

Caitríona Duffy will commence a 48 hour hunger strike at 7pm and this will be marked by an overnight protest by local dissident republicans at the so-called “Free Derry” wall in the Bogside.

A supporter stated: “We call on all the people of the city to come out and show their support for Colie Duffy and his family.
“His current detention and its manner are a human rights violation.”

Duffy, a former member of Sinn Féin and the IRA, was charged with the murder of sappers Patrick Azimkar and Mark Quinsey at Massereene army barracks in March.

The murders were claimed by the Real IRA (RIRA) at the time.
