Police release men arrested at Real IRA demonstration in Derry
Six men who were arrested after a rally in Northern Ireland on Easter Monday are released after being held in Antrim
Six men arrested following a Real IRA rally on Easter Monday were freed on Tuesday night.
The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) have confirmed that the men were released after being held in the serious crimes suite in Antrim Town.
They were detained after a Real IRA commemoration in Derry’s Creggan cemetery ended on Monday evening.
No attempt was made to arrest anyone during the event when a masked Real IRA member read an Easter statement vowing that the terror group would continue to attack the security forces in Northern Ireland and Britain.
Unionists have criticised the PSNI for failing to move in when the Real IRA spokesman started speaking at the republican plot inside the cemetery.
Derry remains on one of the few places in Northern Ireland where dissident republicans – in this case the real IRA – maintain a presence and have some support.
