Man in court over sectarian murder
James McAfee, 28, has been charged with the murder of Catholic community worker Kevin McDaid
The 11th person charged in connection with the sectarian murder of a Catholic community worker in Northern Ireland appeared in court today.
Kevin McDaid was beaten to death by a loyalist mob in Coleraine last May following the end of the Scottish football season. The father-of-four died near his home in the Somerset Drive area of the County Derry town.
Today James McAfee, 28, appeared at Ballymena magistrates court charged with McDaid’s murder and the attempted murder of another Catholic man from the same area of Coleraine.
McAfee, from Lisnablagh Road, Harpurs Hill, Coleraine, is also facing three other charges, including one of assaulting McDaid’s widow. He was refused bail.
