Seamus McGreevy, Real IRA, morto nel fine settimana

Gun smuggling suspect found dead

A Real IRA member who was under investigation in Lithuania for links to an arms smuggling plot has been found dead at his home in County Meath.

The Irish police said no one else was being sought in connection with the death of Seamus McGreevy, 56, who was found at the weekend.

McGreevy’s extradition was being sought by the Lithuanian authorities.

He received a four-year prison sentence in 2001 after admitting his role in a Real IRA training camp in 1999.

He was sentenced along with five other men arrested when police raided a farm in County Louth and found a make-shift firing range in a disused cellar.

An assault rifle, a sub machine gun and a semi-automatic pistol were found during the operation.

Another man, Michael Campbell, is on trial in Lithuania for his alleged role in the arms smuggling plot.

The Irish Times newspaper has reported that McGreevy had been “stressed and under serious pressure” after a cannabis growing operation was found last month at a rental property he owned.
