Sei finti ordigni trovati nel City Cemetery di Belfast
Six fake bombs found in cemetery
Six hoax bombs have been recovered and a controlled explosion carried out at Belfast City Cemetery.
Five devices were found inside a pillow case, and another one was found a short distance away.
The security alert in the west of the city, which began on Tuesday afternoon after cemetery staff reported a suspicious object, is now over.
Sector Inspector Sean Taylor said the find was “very significant.”
“We believe the devices were intended for use in other areas to cause as much fear and disruption as possible.
“As it was, the disruption was minor in nature, being confined to cemetery itself.”
Insp Taylor thanked the local community for their cooperation.
“I would encourage them to continue to liaise with us in our efforts to thwart those unwelcome individuals who would try and bring us back into the past.
“Residents can speak with their local community representative or their neighbourhood police officer should they believe they have information on potential or ongoing incidents.”
