Sospesa indagine sui Robinson

Robinson investigation suspended

The Assembly’s Standards and Privileges Committee has suspended its investigation into the conduct of the First Minister Peter Robinson and his wife Iris.

The Committee has been advised that the PSNI is to investigate Mrs Robinson’s financial dealings with two wealthy property developers featured in a BBC Spotlight programme.

It has therefore agreed that the Assembly Commissioner for Standards should suspend his investigation until the outcome of the PSNI investigation is known.

The first couple plunged into crisis after it emerged that Mrs Robinson had secured £50,000 from two developers to help her then 19-year-old lover Kirk McCambley set up a restaurant business in south Belfast.

The BBC documentary further alleged that her husband became aware of the situation but did not take steps to alert the appropriate authorities.

Peter Robinson has temporarily stepped down as Northern Ireland’s First Minister for six weeks amid the storm over his wife’s private life and finances.

Earlier this month, he revealed she was receiving “acute psychiatric treatment” from the Belfast Health and Social Care Trust.

He vehemently denies any knowledge of his wife’s irregular financial affairs and remains leader of the DUP.
