Terminato allarme ad Antrim presso abitazione di politico DUP

Alert at DUP man’s home over

A security alert outside the Antrim home of a former DUP councillor is over, a police spokesman has said.

Birch Hill Park, AntrimUTV received a phone call at around 2pm on Friday warning that a device had been left in the Birch Hill Park area of the town, outside John Smyth’s house.

A number of homes were evacuated and motorists advised to avoid the area, as army bomb experts were tasked to the scene.

It was the second time in less than 12 hours that police were called to the area.

Arsonists set fire to a vehicle in the Birch Hill Park area in the early hours of Friday. The blaze then spread to a nearby home.

DUP MLA for South Antrim, Trevor Clarke, has condemned the disruption.

“Those responsible are beneath contempt and have disturbed the local community for a second time today after the arson attack in the early hours of this morning”, he said.

Nothing untoward was found during the security operation.
