Unionist icon Edward Carson mural paint bombed on Belfast’s Falls Road
A mural of Edward Carson on the Falls Road in west Belfast has been paint bombed.
The mural on the ‘International Wall’ depicting the unionist leader at the height of the home rule crisis in 1912 was defaced sometime overnight, it is understood.
A large white mark covered most of Carson following the attack. Work on Wednesday had removed most of the paint.
The work was painted as part of a display to mark the centenary of the Easter Rising and the events running up to it.
Carson led the resistance to home rule and was the first to sign the Ulster Covenant in 1912.
He also helped establish the UVF.
Police said no report has been made of the incident.
