Cameron deve “aprire gli archivi” sulle stragi nella Repubblica irlandese

PM urged to ‘open files’ on Republic’s atrocities

Families of those killed in the Troubles in the Republic are calling on the Prime Minister to open the files on atrocities perpetrated there in the 1970s.

Dublin Monaghan bombingVictims group Justice for the Forgotten is making the plea to coincide with the visit of the Queen to the region, which falls on the 37th anniversary of the Dublin and Monaghan bombings.

The families of 34 people, including an unborn child, who died in the attacks say David Cameron needs to reveal Britain’s role in the bombings.

It has been claimed that loyalist paramilitaries, the UVF, carried out the four explosions on May 17th with the assistance of British intelligence.

No-one has ever been prosecuted in connection with the bombings, which caused the greatest loss of life in a single day during the entire period of the Troubles.

Margaret Urwin from the Justice for the Forgotten group has said the Queen’s visit presents Mr Cameron “with a golden opportunity to make a genuinely significant gesture of reconciliation.”

“It is being seen as a gesture of reconciliation and what better gesture could there be than to provide these files,” Ms Urwin said.

“After all when the British Prime Minister gave his apology for Bloody Sunday he said the truth would make us stronger, not weaker.”
