Shots fired at police station
Shots have been fired at Crossmaglen police station in south Armagh.
The attack was carried out shortly before 11pm on Friday night.
Bullet shells were found scattered outside the station.
There are no reports of injuries.
It is the third time this station has been targeted in recent months.
“There is absolutely nothing to be gained from this nor is there any support for this type of activity in the Crossmaglen area,” local SDLP MLA for the area Dominic Bradley said.
“This has happened before in the not to distant past, nothing was gained from it then and nothing will be gained from it this time.
“The police are in Crossmaglen and they are there to stay.”
Condemning the attack, SDLP councillor Geraldine Donnelly added:
“Once again we’ve had another attack on a barracks here in Crossmaglen. It’s not doing the image of our town any good.
“Somebody is going to get hurt. We’ve had this for 30 years – it was wrong then and it’s wrong now, and people are sick, sore and tired of this type of activity.”
Detectives want anyone who may have information about the attack to contact them.
