27 ottobre 2012: giornata internazionale per i POW

I repubblicani e i loro sostenitori di tutto il mondo terranno un Giorno di Azione Internazionale a sostegno dei POW (prigionieri di guerra irlandesi) il 27 ottobre.
Ci saranno almeno 16 manifestazioni in 11 Stati di 3 continenti: New York, Sydney, Roma, Londra, Manchester, Toronto, Parigi, Glasgow, Amburgo, Colorado, Darmstadt, Dusseldorf, Magdeburgo, Utrecht e Goteborg.

L’International POW-Day 2012 è organizzato dal Comitato Internazionale “Support the POWs!”, allineato con il Republican Sinn Fein.

Dieter Blumenfeld, portavoce del Comitato, ha affermato: “Più di 30 anni dopo la fine degli scioperi della fame nei Blocchi H, i prigionieri irlandesi sono costretti ancora una volta a protestare per i propri diritti. Alcuni di questi uomini stanno facendo una dirty protest da oltre un anno. L’ingiustizia in Irlanda sta crescendo. Marian Price e Martin Corey sono entrambi internati da più di 12 mesi e un irlandese è in carcere in Lituania, dove vengono negati i suoi basilari diritti umani. Chiediamo a tutti i repubblicani, ai loro sostenitori e agli attivisti politici di mostrare il loro sostegno per i prigionieri repubblicani il 27 ottobre. Solo una pressione internazionale può avere successo nella campagna di sostegno ai POW”.

I prigionieri repubblicani detenuti a Maghaberry hanno inviato un messaggio di ringraziamento al Comitato “Support The POWs!”, in cui si legge: “Il sostegno ricevuto da tutto il mondo ci rende ancora più determinati e risoluti, siamo infatti grati per tale supporto, e vi chiediamo di continuare il sostegno e l’attivismo. Plaudiamo a chi è sceso nelle strade di tutto il mondo per protestare per la detenzione di veri repubblicani”.

Il Republican Sinn Féin terrà dei picchetti in sostegno dei POW a Lurgan (Contea di Armagh), a Dublino e Galway. Anche il Prisoners Solidarity Group terrà il proprio picchetto mensile a Cork il 27 ottobre.

International Day of Action to be held on October 27

Irish Republicans and their supporters all over the world will hold an International Day of Action for Irish Republican Prisoners of War on October 27. There will be at least 16 protests in 11 countries on 3 continents such as New York, Sydney, Rome, London, Rome, Manchester, Toronto, Paris, Glasgow, Hamburg, Colorado, Darmstadt, Dusseldorf, Magdeburg, Utrecht or Goteborg.

The International POW-Day 2012 is organised by the International Committee ‘Support the POWs!’. Dieter Blumenfeld, spokesperson of the Committee ‘Support the POWs!’ said: “More than 30 years after the H-Block Hunger strikes ended, Irish prisoners are once again forced to protest for their rights. Some of these men are on dirty-protest for more than a year. Injustice in Ireland is growing. Marian Price and Martin Corey are both interned for more than a year and an Irishman held in a Lithuanian jail is denied his basic human rights. We urge all Irish republicans, their supporters and political activists to show support for the Irish republican prisoners on October 27. Only international pressure can be successful in the campaign to support the Irish republican prisoners.”

The republican prisoners in Maghaberry jail sent greetings to the Committee ‘Support the POWs!’ saying: “The support we have received from those across the world makes us more determined and resolute, we are indeed grateful for such support, and ask for your continued support and activism on our behalf. We applaud those of you who take to the streets all over the world in protest at the detention of true Republicans.”

Republican Sinn Féin will also hold pickets in support of the POWs in Lurgan, Co. Armagh, Dublin and a stall in Galway. The Prisoners Solidarity Group Cork will host their monthly POW-picket on October 27, too.
