L’ex boss del terrore nordirlandese Johnny “Mad Dog” Adair – da tempo fuggito in Scozia per evitare ritorsioni dei suoi ex commilitoni – è stato arrestato per un presunto attacco contro un ex sodale dell’Ulster Defence Association.
Adair, 49 anni, è accusato di essersi scagliato con l’ex compagno lealista Ian Truesdale dopo che si sono incontrati casualmente domenica.
Truesdale, 52 anni, sarebbe stato lasciato riverso sulla strada dopo un pugno sulla testa. L’incidente sarebbe stato visto da due bambini piccoli.
I due uomini, entrambi di Belfast, si conoscono da oltre 30 anni. Hanno militato entrambi nella famigerata “C Company” dell’UDA.
Ma la relazione si sarebbe guastata dopo che Truesdale, contrabbandiere di droga condannato, si è trasferito a Kilmarnock.
Truesdale era a Troon, dove Adair ha vissuto fino a poco tempo fa prima di trasferirsi a Irvine, quando sarebbe stato aggredito all’uscita di un supermercato. Adair nega ogni accusa.
Nel 2003 Truesdale era stato formalmente accusato di aver ucciso Jonathan Stewart, 22 anni, cui spararono durante una festa casalinga a North Belfast il 27 dicembre 2002, ma le accuse in seguito furono ritirate.
Truesdale ha scontato metà della condanna a cinque anni per spaccio di droga a Bolton..
Gli amici sostengono che sta cercando di mettersi alle spalle il passato criminale e si è trasferito in Scozia per un nuovo inizio.
Adair è stato arrestato alle 2 del mattino il martedì nel suo appartamento.
Ha fatto la sua comparsa al tribunale di Ayr dove si è dichiarato non colpevole.
Mad Dog è stato rilasciato con la condizionale e dovrà prossimamente apparire in aula.
Adair non ha rilasciato alcun commento.

FORMER terror chief Johnny “Mad Dog” Adair has been arrested over an alleged attack on a former Ulster Defence Association pal.
Adair, 49, is accused of lashing out at fellow Loyalist Ian Truesdale after the pair met by chance on Sunday.
Truesdale, 52, was allegedly left sprawled on the street after being punched on the head. The incident is said to have been witnessed by two young children.
The pair, both from Belfast, have known each other for three decades. They served with the UDA’s C Company.
But the relationship is said to have turned sour after convicted drug dealer Truesdale moved to Kilmarnock.
Truesdale was in Troon, where Adair lived until recently moving to Irvine, when he was allegedly attacked as he came out a supermarket. Adair denies any wrongdoing.
In 2003, Truesdale was accused of murdering Jonathan Stewart, 22, who was shot at a house party in north Belfast on December 27, 2002 – but the charges were later dropped.
Truesdale later served half of a five-year sentence for drug dealing in Bolton.
Friends claim he is trying to put his criminal past behind him and moved to Scotland for a new start.
Adair was arrested at 2am on Tuesday at his flat.
He made an appearance at Ayr’s Justice of the Peace Court later that day, where he pled not guilty.
He has been bailed to appear at a later date.
Adair was not available for comment last night.
