Cinque sospetti repubblicani sono comparsi in aula accusati di cospirazione a commettere atti di terrorismo
Martin Hughes, Edward McVeigh, Anton Duffy, Paul Sands e Stacy McAllister – tutti scozzesi – sono anche accusati di aver cospirato per uccidere.
Sono accusati di aver pianificato, tra il 1° febbraio e il 23 ottobre, l’esecuzione di atti di terrorismo durante le loro riunioni avvenute in Old Castle Road a Glasgow.
Sono tutti accusati di aver complottato per effettuare una campagna terroristica nel Regno Unito. Si presume che abbiano cercato di ottenere un certo quantitativo di armi da fuoco ed esplosivi, al fine di compiere i reati di terrorismo, tra cui “danneggiamento alla proprietà e uccisione di civili”.
Un convoglio di moto, auto e furgoni della polizia è stato utilizzato per portare ciascuno degli imputati in tribunale.
Ognuno è comparso separatamente presso lo Sheriff Court di Glasgow. Nessuno dei cinque ha aperto bocca in aula e tutti sono stati rinviati alla custodia dello sceriffo Ian Miller. Compariranno nuovamente in aula la prossima settimana.
I cinque imputati sono stati arrestati in diverse località della Scozia il 23 ottobre. L’operazione è stata condotta dalla polizia scozzese, con il coinvolgimento della PSNI nordirlandese e dei servizi di sicurezza.
Dopo l’operazione la polizia scozzese ha detto di essersi focalizzata sulle “attività di singole persone, solidali con i dissidenti repubblicani, ma che non sono affiliati ad alcun gruppo specifico”.
Tutte le cinque persone erano state tenute presso il Centro di Detenzione Terroristi nella zona di Govan a Glasgow. Alla polizia è stato concesso un periodo prolungato di detenzione in base al Terrorism Act.

Irish Republican terror suspects named in Glasgow court appearance
Five Irish Republican terror suspects have appeared in court charged with conspiring to commit acts of terrorism.
Martin Hughes, Edward McVeigh, Anton Duffy, Paul Sands and Stacy McAllister are also alleged to have conspired to murder. The four men are aged 26, 30, 34 and 39 while McAllister is 27 years old.
They are charged with planning between February 1 and October 23 at a property on Old Castle Road, Cathcart, Glasgow to commit acts of terrorism.
They are all accused of plotting to carry out a terrorist campaign in the UK. It is alleged they tried to get a hold of firearms and explosives with a view to carrying out terrorist offences, including “damage to property and murder of civilians”.
A convoy of police motorbikes, police cars and vans were used to bring each of the accused to and from the court.
They each appeared separately in private at Glasgow Sheriff Court where they made no plea or declaration and were remanded in custody by sheriff Ian Miller. They are due to appear next week for full committal.
The five accused were detained at several locations in Scotland on October 23. The operation was led by Police Scotland and also involved the Police Service of Northern Ireland and the security service.
After the operation, Police Scotland said it had focused on the “activities of individuals sympathetic to dissident Republicanism, but who are not affiliated to any specific group”.
All five people had been held at the Scottish Terrorist Detention Centre in the Govan area of Glasgow. Police were granted an extended detention period under the Terrorism Act on October 25.
