12 luglio 2011: Due poliziotti feriti a Portadown

Due agenti della PSNI sono rimasti feriti martedì mattina nei disordini scoppiati a Portadown

La polizia era stata chiamata ad operare nelle aree nazionaliste di Craigwell Avenue e di Obins Street.

Alcune case sono state danneggiate, mentre pietre venivano lanciate nell’area e alla polizia. E’ stato eseguito un arresto per danneggiamento e comportamento riottoso.

John O’Dowd, parlamentare dello Sinn Fein, ha detto che c’era “una certa organizzazione nell’attacco”, avvenuto a circa 200 metri da un bonfire (falò) lealista.

“Dodici uomini a volto coperto non fanno solo un giro”, ha affermato.

“Sono venuti per provocare dolore alla comunità.

“Ci sono incidenti in tutto il Nord. Stanno chiaramente cercando di trascinarci indietro al confliotto cui dobbiamo resistere”.

Two police officers hurt in Portadown trouble

Two police officers were injured during disturbances in Portadown early on Tuesday morning.

Police were called to the nationalist Craigwell Avenue and Obins Street area.

A number of houses were damaged, as stones were thrown in the area and at police. One arrest was made for riotous behaviour and criminal damage.

Upper Bann Sinn Fein MLA John O’Dowd said there was a “certain amount of organisation in the attack” which happened 200m from a loyalist bonfire.

“Twelve masked men don’t just turn up,” he said.

“They came to cause hurt and pain to the local community.

“There are incidences occurring across the north. They are clearly trying to drag us back to conflict which we must resist.”
