Il video, filmato presso la Chiesa di San Patrizio in Donegall Street, mostra la banda – con le uniformi lealiste della Shankill YCV – marciare in cerchio all’esterno della chiesa.
La persona intenta a filmare quanto accaduto, secondo quanto riferito da BBC, sarebbe stata affrontata e minacciata dai componenti di un’altra banda musicale.
Ad un certo punto la banda ha intonato “The Famine Song“, una canzone anti cattolica originaria di Glasgow.
La canzone viene suonata sulla musica di “Sloop John B” dei Beach Boys, ma rimpiazza il coro “I feel so broke up, I wanna go home” con “The famine is over, why don’t you go home?”.
L’uomo che ha registrato uno dei video – e la cui identità non viene rivelata – ha detto che l’incidente è avvenuto poco dopo l’avvio della principale parata dell’Orange Order da Carlisle Circus.
Secondo l’uomo c’era un ritardo nell’avvio della parata e la banda si è spostata da dove si trovava fino al sagrato della chiesa.
L’improvvisato concerto settario sarebbe durato tra 15 e 20 minuti e ad un certo punto si sono messi a ballare mentre i tamburi venivano suonati.
Loyalist band filmed playing sectarian songs outside Catholic church in Belfast
The footage, which was filmed at St Patrick’s Church on Donegall Street, shows the band – wearing Shankill YCV uniforms – walking around in circles outside the chapel.
The BBC has reported that at the end of one of the videos, the person recording it is confronted and threatened by members of another band.
At one point the band was playing the music of “the famine song“, an anti-Catholic song which originated in Glasgow.
The famine song is played to the music of the Beach Boys’ Sloop John B, but replaces the chorus “I feel so broke up, I wanna go home” with “The famine is over, why don’t you go home?”.
A man who filmed one of the videos – and who did not want to be named – said it happened shortly after the main Belfast Orange Order parade left Carlisle Circus.
He said there was a delay in the parade and the band moved from where they were standing to play outside the church.
He said they played for 15 to 20 minutes and at one point were dancing outside it while drums were being played.
