Alan è stato colpito alle spalle a sangue freddo nelle strade in cui è cresciuto, strade dove ha lavorato incessantemente per contrastare il diffondersi delle droghe cui ha opposto ogni singola fibra del proprio essere.
Non possiamo esprimere con le parole il dolore provato dal movimento nel suo complesso e dai singoli individui adesso che ci è stato portato via.
L’omicidio di Alan non sottointende la fine della causa per cui ha dato la sua vita.
Sia come ex prigioniero repubblicano che faceva propaganda per i suoi compagni a Maghaberry, o come attivista anti droga che proteggeva la propria comunità, Alan è stato un esempio che verrà seguito.
Non sarà dimenticato dai suoi compagni che rimangono e che porteranno avanti la sua eredità come Alan ha fatto risolutamente con l’eredità degli altri che sono caduti prima di lui.
Statement on the murder of Alan Ryan
Alan was shot in the back in cold blood on the streets where he grew up, streets where he had worked tirelessly to tackle the scourge of drugs which he had always opposed with every fibre of his being.
We cannot express in words the pain now felt by both the movement as a whole and individual activists now that he has been taken from us.
Alan’s murder does not mean the end of the cause for which he gave his life.
Whether it was as an ex Republican prisoner campaigning for his comrades in Maghaberry, or as an anti drugs activist protecting his community Alan set an example which will be followed.
He will not be forgotten by his comrades who remain and who will carry on his legacy as resolutely as he did the legacy of others who fell before him.
