Clady alert is declared an ‘elaborate hoax’
The security operation in Clady, Co Tyrone, ended early today with the incident being declared an elaborate hoax.
All roads have been reopened and the van in question has been removed for further examination.
A controlled explosion was carried out on a van last night which was left abandoned on the bridge near the town.
British Army Technical officers are continuing to examine the vehicle.
The village had been sealed off yesterday following a telephoned warning that a 600lb bomb had been left inside the van.
The alarm was raised at around 9pm on Wednesday, when local people became suspicious after noticing the van left on the bridge with its hazard lights on.
