Accordo di Maghaberry: RNU ne chiede immediata implementazione

Ciaran Cunningham, portavoce di Cogús – il dipartimento dedicato ai POW di Republican Network for Unity – chiede la piena implementazione dell’accordo di Maghaberry dello scorso agosto

Afferma Cunningham: “Siamo al quarantesimo anniversario dell’internamento, difficile da credere. I regimi dei governi di Stormont e britannico ritenevano che imprigionare centinaia di irlandesi avrebbe spezzato la resistenza al giogo britannico. Quanto si sbagliavano.

“Ciò che è più difficile da comprendere è come quarant’anni dopo, continuiamo ad avere in carcere prigionieri politici che si oppongono al dominio imperialista. Nelle ultime sei settimane, i prigionieri repubblicani a Maghaberry hanno partecipato alla Dirty Protest a causa del fallimento, da addebitare al Prison Service e al ministro della GIustizia David Ford, dell’implementazine dell’accordo di agosto 2010.

“Ai POW sono state respinte le visite legali e familiari, l’uso del telefono, la partecipazione alla messa, l’esercizio e l’educazione. La situazioe è divenuta così intollerabile che Cogus e Cabhair Prisoners ha realizzato uno sciopero della fame della durata di 48 ore. Come hanno detto in precedenza, non stanno cercando un trattamento speciale, solo l’attuazione dell’accordo del 12 agosto.

Cunnigham ha concluso: “Data la crescente crisi nella prigione di Maghaberry, RNU chiede nuovamente che l’accordo venga adottato prima che la situazione peggiori. Chiediamo anche un incontro immediato con Ford per cercare una soluzione, prima dell’aumento della protesta”.

RNU Demand Immediate Implementation Of Maghberry Agreement

REPUBLICAN NETWORK FOR UNITY (RNU) Cogus Spokesperson, CIARAN CUNNINGHAM has demanded the full implementation of last August’s Maghaberry Agreement.

Mr Cunningham said; ‘It’s the 40th anniversary of Internment, which is hard to believe. The British and Stormont Governments regimes believed the imprisonment of scores of Irishmen would end resistance against British rule in Ireland. How wrong they were.

What is even harder to believe is that forty years later, we continue to have Political Prisoners inside opposed to imperialist rule. For the past six weeks, Republican Prisoners in Maghaberry have been on Dirty Protest because of the failure of the Prison Service and Stormont Minister, David Ford to implement last August’s Agreement.

The POWs’ have been refused legal and family visits, telephones, Mass, exercise and education. The situation there has become so intolerable that Cogus and Cabhair Prisoners embarked on a 48 hour Hunger-Strike’. As they have said before, they are not looking for special treatment, just the implementation of the 12th August agreement.

Mr Cunningham concluded; ‘Given the growing crisis in Maghaberry Gaol, RNU again demand that the Agreement is implemented before the situation deepens. We also demand an immediate meeting with Mr. Ford before the protest escalates further and seek a resolution’.
