Teen Injured In ‘Paramilitary-Style’ Attack
A teenager has been treated in hospital after a shooting in west Belfast.
The 17-year-old was shot in the legs in a paramilitary-style attack at a house in the Westrock Park in the Whiterock area at about 9pm on Sunday.
He is being treated for gunshot wounds to both legs, and his condition is not believed to be life threatening.
SDLP assembly member Alex Attwood said the attack was the fourth paramilitary style shooting in west Belfast in 10 days.
Condemning the attacks, he said: “My belief is that there is a group, probably dissident republicans, who are behind all of these attacks.
“I feel it is part of a strategy to curry favour with communities by exercising control over anti-social behaviour.
“But anti-social behaviour is a matter for police to stretch themselves to deal with.”
Officers are appealing for anyone who was in the Springhill Drive/Westrock Gardens area to contact them.
