Adrian Donaldson era lontano dal lavoro dallo scorso dicembre per motivi di salute ed era stato oggetto di una valutazione esterna del suo lavoro perché avrebbe operato in maniera insufficiente nel suo ruolo.
Un portavoce del Board ha confermato che Donaldson, ex dirigente del Castlereagh Borough Council, ha rassegnato le sue dimissioni.
La scorsa estate un consulente di gestione era stato assunto da prominenti membri del Policing Board per valutare ciò che Donaldson aveva compiuto.
La sua partenza è l’ultimo colpo all’organo di controllo della PSNI, durante quello che è stato un periodo roccioso per il Policing Board.
Tre mesi dopo la revisione su Donaldson, è stata realizzata una relazione indipendente sul lavoro complessivo del Consiglio, ritenuto lento nel prendere decisioni, burocratico e non fornendo valore adeguato al bilancio annuale di circa 10 milioni di euro.
In precedenza, il presidente Barry Gilligan era stato costretto a dimettersi temporaneamente dopo che la polizia aveva avviato un’inchiesta sul suo ruolo in un affare terriero a Belfast.
Gilligan, un costruttore di South Belfast, ha insistito di aver agito correttamente in ogni momento.
Donaldson era entrato nel Policing Board nel 2008.
Durante il periodo trascorso al Consiglio di Castlereagh Donaldson fu accreditato del successo organizzativo del funerale per la leggenda del calcio George Best tenutosi a Stormont nel 2005.
Policing board chief quits role
Adrian Donaldson had been off work on health grounds since December last year and had been subject to an external review of his work amid claims he was under-performing in the role.
A board spokeswoman confirmed Mr Donaldson, a former chief executive of Castlereagh Borough Council, had tendered his resignation.
A management consultant was hired by senior board figures last summer to assess what Mr Donaldson had accomplished.
His departure is the latest blow to the PSNI’s oversight body during what has been a rocky period for the watchdog.
Three months after Mr Donaldson’s review was triggered a separate independent report on the overall work of the board found it slow to take decisions, bureaucratic and not providing value for its £8.8 million annual budget.
Prior to that, board chairman Barry Gilligan was forced to stand down temporarily after police launched an investigation into his role in a Belfast land deal.
Mr Gilligan, a wealthy property developer from south Belfast, has insisted he acted correctly at all times.
Mr Donaldson joined the board in 2008.
During his time at Castlereagh Council has was credited with the successful organisation of the huge public funeral for footballing legend George Best at Stormont in 2005.
