Il leader dello SDLP Alasdair McDommell ha confermato di volersi dimettere da parlamentare di Stormont dopo essere stato eletto a Westminster nella circoscrizione di South Belfast
Il parlamentare nazionalista di South Belfast ha rappresentato la zona a Stormont negli ultimi 17 anni.
È stato eletto per la prima volta a Westminster nelle elezioni generali del 2005.
Alasdair McDonnell intraprenderà i passi per dimettersi da Stormont il prima possibile.
Il numero uno dello SDLP è stato rieletto al parlamento di Westminster nelle elezioni di giovedì, ottenendo una maggioranza di 906 voti.
McDonnell ha detto al Sunday Politics Show di BBC: “Parlerò con il partito sui passi da fare dopo aver conquistato il seggio di Westminster per la terza volta”.

Nel 2016, dopo lo scioglimento dell’Assemblea, non sarà più permesso ai politici di mantenere un doppio incarico, costringendo i nuovi parlamentari eletti a scegliere quale seggio rappresentare.
Anche Danny Kinahan dell’UUP ha già comunicato l’intenzione di lasciare il seggio di Stormont dopo essere stato eletto al parlamento di Westminster in South Antrim.

McDonnell to step down as MLA
SDLP leader Alasdair McDonnell has confirmed he is going to step down as an MLA after being returned as an MP for the area.
The South Belfast MLA has represented the area at Stormont for the past 17 years.
He was first elected as MP in 2005.
It is expected he will start the process of stepping down as MLA as soon as possible.
Dr McDonnell was re-elected as an MP for the area in Thursday’s General Election, with a majority of 906 votes.
He told the BBC’s Sunday Politics Show: “I will be talking to the party about the process of moving now that I have secured the Westminster seat for the third time and that’s a major achievement.”

In 2016, following the dissolution of the Assembly, double-jobbing will be banned, leaving a number of newly elected MPs having to decide on which seat to retain.
The UUP’s Danny Kinahan has already said he intends to step down as an MLA following his election as an MP in South Antrim.
