Il leader di Traditional Unionist Voice ha affermato che in seguito all’atteggiamento di alcuni membri del DUP, accusati da Allister di aver fatto gli “sbruffoni”, l’accordo probabilmente non verrà più ripetuto.
Il DUP, comunque, ha detto di essere interessato al colloquio con tutti i partiti unionisti per il bene comune – e un ulteriore coinvolgimento tra i due partiti aspramente rivali per le elezioni del prossimo anno non può essere escluso a priori.
E’ stato confermato il viaggio di Allister a casa di Mervyn Storey, DUP, per negoziare un accordo quid pro quo in base al quale il TUV non chiedeva elezioni suppletive a Ballymoney qualora il DUP avesse restituito il favore a Craigavon.
Entrambi hanno rifiutato di rivelare tutti i dettagli delle loro discussioni ma Storey ieri ha accusato il suo ex collega di partito di averlo “imbottigliato” e, secondo lui, la ragione per cui il TUV ha scelto l’accordo è la scarsità di candidati disponibili.
Allister: deal with DUP is ‘a one-off’
The Traditional Unionist Voice leader said after a lot of DUP “bluster” it appeared the pact would probably never be repeated.
The DUP, however, said it remained interested in talking to all unionist parties for mutual benefit — and a further arrangement between the two bitter rivals for next year’s general election cannot be ruled out.
It was also confirmed that Mr Allister travelled to the home of the DUP’s Mervyn Storey to negotiate the ‘quid pro quo’ deal under which the TUV agreed not to force a Ballymoney by-election if the DUP would return the favour in Craigavon.
Both declined to reveal full details of their discussions but Mr Storey yesterday accused his former colleague of “bottling it” and said the real reason for the TUV withdrawal was a paucity of suitable candidates.
