Il comandante della polizia di Coleraine condana i graffiti contro i suoi agenti comparsi in città
Numerosi graffiti molto visibili sono comparsi nelle zone del centro cittadino fin dall’estate.
L’ultimo è comparso nel fine settimana ed è rivolto contro un poliziotto locale su un muro di un edificio in Mill Street. E’ siglato “RIRA”.
L’Ispettore Thompson chiede alla popolazione un aiuto per arginare il problema. “Alcuni elementi criminali nel centro città non gradiscono l’approccio tenuto dai miei agenti”, ha affermato. “Si tratta di un altro attacco deplorevole.
“I colpevoli scrivono i nomi di alcuni agenti sui muri degli edifici. Sono (graffiti) sinistri, e spesso sono accompagnati dal nome «RIRA».
“condanno totalmente gli attacchi, e mi appello alla popolazione affinché ci aiuti a prendere i responsabili”.
Il comandante della polizia di Coleraine ha detto che c’è anche un “costo” per gli attacchi.
“Costa tempo e soldi pulire questi edifici.
“Al momento stiamo lavorando con i fornitori di telecamere a circuito chiuso per puntare le telecamere contro particolari aree della città”-
Il parlamentare del DUP Adrian McQuillan si dice preoccupato per i graffiti.
“L’ultimo attacco è molto sinistro e rappresenta una minaccia contro un preciso agente.
“Credo questo vada evidenziato e condannato da tutti i rappresentanti politici.
“John Dallat è stato pronto a puntare il dito contro i murales lealisti nei quartieri di Coleraine. Penso che questi graffiti siano molto più seri, essendo firmati dalla Real IRA”.
Un portavoce della polizia ha detto martedì mattina: “In seguito all’aumento dei graffiti nella zona di Coleraine gli agenti del Coleraine Crime Team ha arrestato un ventiduenne.
“Al momento sta aiutando la polizia nelle indagini”.

Sinister graffiti attacks continue in town centre
A Coleraine police chief has condemned a series of vicious graffiti attacks on his officers in the town.
There have been numerous instances of high-visibility graffiti in areas in the town centre since the start of the summer.
The latest personalised slur on a local officer, appeared over the weekend on the side of a vacant building at Mill Street and signed ‘RIRA’.
Chief Inspector Thompson is now calling on the public to help stamp out the problem
“Some criminal elements in the town centre do not like the pro-active approach taken by my officers,” he said yesterday.
“This is another deplorable attack.
“The culprits brandish the names of particular officers on the sides of buildings. They are sinister, and are often branded with the name ‘RIRA’.
“I totally condemn the attacks, and I would appeal for the public to help us catch those responsible.”
The Coleraine commander said that there was also a ‘cost element’ to the attacks.
“It costs a lot of money and time to clean up these buildings.
“We are currently working with the CCTV service provider to focus the cameras on particular areas of the town.”
DUP MLA Adrian McQuillan said he was concerned about the graffiti.
“The latest attack is very sinister and represents a threat to a particular officer.
“I think this has to be highlighted and condemned by all political representatives.
“John Dallat was keen to point the finger at loyalist murals in Coleraine estates. I think these graffiti attacks are far more serious, given that they are being tagged by the RIRA.”
A police spokesperson said on Tuesday morning: “Following a spate of graffiti attacks in the Coleraine area officers from the Coleraine Crime Team have arrested a 22 year old man.
“He is currently helping police with their enquiries.”
