Il club GAA di Rasharkin è stato vandalizzato con graffiti settari durante la notte
Il parlamentare shinner per North Antrim, Daithi McKay, marchia l’attacco come “disgustoso”.
“Chi ha compiuto questi attacchi ha utilizzato imprecazioni, riferimenti settari e fatto un completo pasticcio”, ha detto a UTV.
“Il muro stesso è coperto di graffiti, alcuni con riferimenti al Papa, alcuni con riferimenti alla Real IRA, proprio linguaggio in generale è disgustoso”.
La scorsa settimana la Parades Commisson ha limitato una marcia lealista che attraverserà la cittadina.
Alla Ballymaconnelly Sons of Conquerors Flute Band, che marcerà attraverso Rasharkin venerdì 20 agosto, è stato proibito di effettuare il ritorno per lo stesso percorso.
Potrà procedere solo fino al bivio di Main Street e Bridge Street.
Daithi McKay ritiene che l’attacco al club GAA di domenica notte è un tentativo di intimidire i residenti in vista della parata.
“A mio parere, è chiaramente uno sforzo per cercare di fomentare la tensione in vista della sfilata per le vie della cittadina di venerdì”, ha continuato.
“Noi non vogliamo vedere attacchi in risposta. La gente è malata, ferita e stanca di vedere Rasharkin nelle notizie per le ragioni sbagliate.
“Mi appello alle persone della zona ad essere vigilanti nell’avvicinarsi a quella parata”.
L’edificio era stato precedentemente attaccato alla fine del 2009. In una raffica di incidenti era stata lanciata vernice contro uno dei cancelli e le parole “UDA Ha done again” (L’UDA lo a fatto di nuovo, Ndt) erano state scritte su un muro.
La polizia sta indagando sull’ultimo incidente, gestito come settario.

Graffiti attack on Rasharkin GAA
A GAA club in Rasharkin has been vandalised with sectarian graffiti in an overnight attack, a police spokesperson has confirmed.
North Antrim Sinn Féin MLA Daithí McKay has branded the attack “disgusting”.
“Those who carried out the attacks used expletives, used sectarian references and made an entire mess,” he told UTV.
“The wall itself is covered with graffiti, some with references to the Pope, some with references to the Real IRA, just generally disgusting language.”
Last week the Parades Commisson restricted an upcoing loyalist march through the village.
The Ballymaconnelly Sons of Conquerors Flute band, due to march through Rasharkin on Friday 20 August, has been banned from walking the return leg.
It will proceed only to the junction of Main Street and Bridge Street.
Daithí McKay said he believes the attack on the GAA club on Sunday night is an attempt to intimidate people in the area ahead of the march.
“In my opinion it is quite clearly an effort to try and stir up tension ahead of the parade through the village on Friday,” he continued.
“We don’t want to see any attacks in response. People are sick, sore and tired of Rasharkin being in the news for the wrong reasons.
“I would appeal for people in the area to be vigilant in the run-up to that parade.”
The building was previously attacked in late 2009. In a spate of incidents paint was thrown over one of the gates and the words “UDA Ha done again” were sprayed on a wall.
Police are investigating the latest incident, which they say is being treated as sectarian.
