Ancora in gravi condizioni il poliziotto ferito a Randalstown

L’agente della PSNI rimasto ferito nell’attacco di venerdì mattina resta “gravemente ferito” in ospedale.

Peadar Heffron è stato ferito dallo scoppio di una bomba posizionata sotto alla sua vettura mentre percorreva Milltown Road a Randalstown intorno alle 6.30 del mattino.

Il poliziotto, 33 anni, specialista di gaelico per la PSNI e capitano della squadra di calcio gaelico sempre per la polizia, si stava recando al lavoro presso la stazione PSNI Woodbourne a West Belfast.

Heffron è arruolato in polizia da 10 anni e recentemente ha sposato una collega poliziotta.

E’ imparentato con Declan Kearney, importante membro dello Sinn Fein.

Si ritiene che Heffron abbia guidato per quasi un chilometro prima dell’esplosione. E’ stato trovato in stato cosciente ma perdeva molto sangue.

E’ stato operato immediatamenteall’ospedale di Antrim e quindi trasferito al Royal Victoria Hospital di Belfast.

Il comandante della polizia Matt Baggott ha detto che ogni persona decente dovrebbe condannare l’attacco.

“Il nostro collega è stato brutalmente bersagliato in un attacco vigliacco mentre lasciava la sua abitazione per recarsi al lavoro”, ha affermato.

“Il mio appello per tutti è di continuare a sostenerci nella costruzione della pace e non permettere a questo incidente di distoglierci da quell’obiettivo”.

Injured PSNI officer still ‘critically ill’

THE PSNI officer injured in a dissident republican bomb attack yesterday remained ‘critically ill’ in hospital.
Constable Peadar Heffron was injured when a bomb exploded under his car on the Milltown Road in Randalstown at about 6.30am on Friday.

The 33-year-old, an Irish language specialist for the PSNI and captain of the PSNI GAA team, was making his way to work in Woodbourne PSNI station in west Belfast.

Mr Heffron has been in the police for 10 years and recently married another PSNI officer.

He is related to senior Sinn Fein member, Declan Kearney.

It is believed Constable Heffron had driven about a mile from his home when the bomb exploded and he was found breathing and conscious but bleeding heavily.

He underwent surgery at Antrim hospital and was then moved to the Royal Victoria hospital in Belfast.

Chief Constable Matt Baggott said every decent person would condemn the attack.

“Our colleague was brutally targeted this morning in a cowardly attack as he left his home to travel to work,” he said.

“My appeal to everyone is that you continue to support us in building peace and to not let this incident detract us all from that goal.”
