Anniversario morte di John Brady: la famiglia non crede al Police Ombudsman

La sorella del repubblicano di Strabane morto mentre si trovava in custodia della polizia presso la stazione PSNI di Strand Road a Derry dice di non credere che l’indagine svolta dal Police Ombudsman porterà alla verità

Lorna Brady ha rilasciato il commento dopo aver onorato il primo anniversario della morte di suo fratello John, lo scorso venerdì.

La donna ha protestato all’esterno della stazione di polizia insieme a sostenitori dell’IRSP, Republican Network for Unity, e del 32 County Sovereignty.

La donna di Strabane ha riferito che il Police Ombudsman rilascerà il suo rapporto entro fine mese. “L’ultima data sentita sarebbe il 26 ottobre, ma è stato rimandato così tante volte che adesso aspettiamo e vediamo.

“Ci hanno detto sarebbe stato rilasciato alla fine di luglio, poi il 18 ottore e adesso il 26 ottobre. Ogni volta ti devi riprendere perché sta diventando molto difficile ed emotivo. Mi ero presa giorni di ferie dal lavoro in passato, pensando avremmo ricevuto il rapporto, perché so che sarà un giorno difficile.

“Stiamo ancora aspettando risposte e tutto ciò che vogliamo conoscere è la verità su quanto accaduto a John”, prosegue.

La Brady ha anche detto di non credere che il rapporto porterà la verità sulla morte del fratello. “Non credo porterà verità. Se vogliamo ottenere la verità dobbiamo prevedere un periodo lungo ed una strada molto difficile, ma siamo pronti per quello. Non importa quanto tempo occorrerà, siamo determinati a proseguire la nostra campagna fino a quanto otterremo la verità”, dice Lorna Brady.

Un portavoce dell’ufficio del Police Ombudsman ha affermato: “L’indagine è completa ed è stato organizzato un incontro con la famiglia Brady per discutere i risultati”.

Brady family protest on first anniversary

A sister of a Strabane republican who died in police custody in Strand Road PSNI station last year has said she does not believe the Police Ombudsman’s investigation into his death will deliver the truth.

Lorna Brady made the comments following the first anniversary of the death of her brother, John, on Friday.

Ms Brady marked the anniversary by staging a protest outside the police station on Friday evening with supporters from the IRSP, Republican Network for Unity, and the 32 County Sovereignty.

The Strabane woman said she has been told the Police Ombudsman will deliver his report at the end of the month. “The latest we have heard is that it is due on October 26th but it has been delayed so many times now that we’ll have to wait and see.

“We were told it would be the end of July, then October 18th, and now October 26th. Each time you get yourself geared up for it because it is going to be very difficult and emotional. I have booked days off my work in the past thinking we were going to get the report because I know it will be a hard day.

“We are still waiting for answers and all we want is the truth about what happened to John,” she said.

Ms Brady also said she does not believe the report will get to the truth of her brother’s death. “I don’t think it will bring truth. If we do get to the real truth, I think it will take a long time and it will be a long hard road but we are prepared for that. No matter how long it takes we are determined to continue the campaign until we get the truth,” she said.

A spokesperson for the Police Ombudsman’s office said: “The investigation is complete and a meeting has been set up with Mr Brady’s family to discuss the findings.”
