Un gruppo lealista si è assunto la responsabilità per l’attacco contro la casa di una coppia polacca ad Antrim
Alcune abitazioni sono state evacuate e l’accesso alla scuola Parkhall è stato impedito per diverso tempo, mentre gli artificieri dell’esercito esaminavano l’oggetto sospetto.
La polizia riferisce che l’ordigno è stato portato via per ulteriori indagini.
Il comandante d’Area della PSNI, l’Ispettore Capo Natalie Wilson, ha condannato gli autori del gesto che “si sono presi la legge nelle loro mani”.
“La polizia e la comunità trovano inaccettabile che individui o gruppi prendano la legge nelle proprie mani”, ha affermato.
“I vigilantes continuano solamente il ciclo di violenza e vogliamo incoraggiare grandemente chiunque abbia informazioni su questo od altri attacchi, di contattare direttamente la polizia.
“Nelle ultime settimane ci sono state alcune speculazioni nella comunità locale riguardo alla criminalità ed ai comportamenti anti sociali.
“Il modo più appropriato per riportare tali incidenti è attraverso la polizia”.
Questo attacco giunge dopo la comparsa di graffiti che avvertivano gli stranieri di essere dei bersagli.
La coppia polacca, entrambi ventenni, vive in Irlanda del Nord da oltre sei anni. Vengono descritti dai politici locali come estremamente tranquilli e gran lavoratori.
Il parlamentare del DUP Trevor Clarke ha raccontato: “Ancora una volta abbiamo avuto degli inconvenienti per le famiglie, non solo per gli adulti a anche per i bambini che cercavano di andare a scuola”.
“Chiedo alla popolazione di collaborare con i servizi di emergenza, permettendogli di fare il loro lavoro”.
Noel Maguire, consigliere Sinn Fein, afferma: “L’uso di un ordigno esplosivo e la denuncia di un’organizzazione nascosta è un crescendo di una minaccia esistente di cui la gente di Antrim può fare volentieri a meno.
“C’è ovviamente un motivo razzista dietro a questo attacco, così come per quello contro un’altra famiglia polacca di lunedì, e deve essere condannato da tutti gli oppositori alla violenza”.
Grainne Teggart, SDLP, ricorda: “Il contributo positivo dato dalle famiglie polacche e da altre famiglie di immigrati è in netto contrasto con il negativo, sinistro e deprecabile contributo di quei responsabili per l’allarme di oggi”.
Il rappresentante di Alliance Party, Neil Kelly, esprime il proprio disgusto per l’attacco.
“Questo ordigno poteva tranquillamente ferire in modo grave o uccidere chiunque passava vicino a questa casa.Occorre fermare questi attacchi prima di piangere per una vita perduta”.
La polizia chiede informazioni. Tutte le strade sono state riaperte.

Polish couple targeted in attack
A loyalist terror group has admitted responsibility for a pipe bomb attack targeting the house of a Polish couple in Antrim.
A number of homes were evacuated and access to Parkhall Primary School was affected for a time, as army bomb experts examined the suspicious object found in the Seacash Drive area of the town.
The device has been taken away for further examination, a police spokesperson said.
PSNI Area Commander Chief Inspector Natalie Wilson condemned those who would “take the law into their own hands”.
“Police and the community find it unacceptable for individuals or groups to take the law into their own hands,” she said.
“Vigilantism only continues the cycle of violence and we would strongly encourage anyone with information about this or any other attack to contact police directly.
“There has been some speculation in the local community in recent weeks with regard to crime and anti-social behaviour.
“The most appropriate channel for reporting such incidents is through the local police.”
This incident came after graffitti was daubed on a wall in the area warning foreign nationals they would be targeted.
The Polish couple in their 20s, who have lived in Northern Ireland for over six years, have been described by local politicians as extremely quiet and hardworking.
DUP MLA for the area Trevor Clarke said: “Once again we have homes of families evaluated inconveniencing not only them but children seeking access to school.”
“I urge people to cooperate with the emergency services in order to allow them to do their work.”
Sinn Féin councillor Noel Maguire said: “The use of an explosive device and the claim from a shadowy organisation is an escalation of an existing threat that the people of Antrim can do without.
“There is an obvious racist motive behind this attack and the attack on another Polish family on Monday and it needs to be condemned by everyone opposed to such deeds.”
The SDLP’s Gráinne Teggart said: “The positive contribution Polish families and other immigrant families make to the local community is in stark contrast to the negative, sinister and despicable contribution of those responsible for this alert.”
Alliance representative Neil Kelly expressed his disgust at the attack.
“This device could have severely injured or killed any person walking past this house. These incidents must stop before a life is lost.”
Police investigating the incident have appealed for information. All roads have re-opened.
