L’Ard Fheis si è svolto presso il centro culturale Cultúrlann McAdam Ó Fiaich. Hanno partecipato più di 200 persone e ci sono stati i discorsi dei portavoce del Comitato Solidale Irlanda-Palestina, del Centro Solidale Latino Americano, dell’Independent Workers’ Union (Sindacato Indipendente dei Lavoratori), del FEE oltre agli interventi del presidente di éirígí Brian Leeson e del segretario generale Breandán MacCionnaith.
Messaggi di solidarietà sono giunti dall’ambasciatrice cubana in Irlanda Teresita Trujillo e dal Fronte Popolare per la Liberazione della Palestina.
Riguardo alla decisione presa dagli iscritti al partito riguardo alle elezioni locali nelle Sei Contee, Brian Leeson ha affermato: “Dopo cinque anni dalla nascita di éirígí, il partito sente che il tempo è giusto per fare un intervento elettorale per promuovere ulteriormente un risorgente repubblicanesimo socialista.
“éirígí non si fa illusioni sulla natura della politica elettorale nelle Sei Contee e, inoltre, in tutta Irlanda. Le Sei Contee sono uno stato settario e irrimediabilmente corrotto. Nessun numero di elezioni nei consigli locali, assemblee o parlamenti stranieri può cambiare questo fatto.
“Riteniamo sia presente un vero appetito per una voce radicale che emerga dalle comunità della classe operaia e che sfiderà con la forza l’occupazione britannica e lo sfruttamento economico e la privazione”.
Leeson ha anche aggiunto: “Ultimamente, i tagli implementati dal governo britannico e dai suoi burattini a Stormont saranno sconfitti sulle strade, nelle nostre comunità e sui luoghi di lavoro. éirígí farà questo tipo di azioni durante tutta l’entrante campagna elettorale”.

The Ard Fheis which was held in the Cultúrlann McAdam Ó Fiaich cultural centre was attended by more than 200 people and was addressed by speakers from the Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Committee, the Latin American Solidarity Centre, the Independent Workers’ Union, FEE, as well as éirígí chairperson Brian Leeson and general secretary Breandán MacCionnaith.
Messages of solidarity were also sent by the Cuban ambassador to Ireland Teresita Trujillo and the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine.
Regarding the decision taken by the party membership on the Six County local elections, Brian Leeson said: “Five years on from the formation of éirígí, the party feels the time is right to make an electoral intervention in order to further promote a resurgent socialist republicanism.
“éirígí has no illusions about the nature of electoral politics in the Six Counties and, indeed, across Ireland. The Six Counties is an irreformably corrupt, sectarian state. No amount of elections to local councils, assemblies or foreign parliaments can change that fact.
“We believe there is a real appetite for a radical voice to emerge from working class communities that will forcefully challenge the British occupation and economic exploitation and deprivation.
Leeson added: “Ultimately, the cuts that are being implemented by the British government and its puppet administration at Stormont will have to be defeated on the streets, in our communities and in people’s workplaces. éirígí will be making the case for this course of action throughout the forthcoming election campaign.”
