La banda musicale che commemora un killer lealista non potrà marciare attraverso Ardoyne il mese prossimo
La Commissione Parate ha vietato alla band di marciare a fianco del Ligoniel Walker Club Apprentice Boys of Derry.
Dichiara la Commissione: “Alla banda e ai sostenitori è vietato (marciare) nella parte del percorso notificato tra il bivio di Crumlin Road e Hesketh Road e lo svincolo di Woodvale Road e Woodvale Parade”.
Afferma anche che, mentre gli organizzatori della parata non sono mai stati coinvolti in comportamenti scorretti, i partiti politici nazionalisti e i residenti considerano “provocatoria” la scelta delle bande musicali.
Gli organizzatori hanno anche ricevuto l’ordine di assicurarsi che l’evento “inizi e si disperda rapidamente”, e che un numero adeguato di stewards vengano messi a disposizione per mantenere un comportamento “ordinato”.
La Commissione Parate aggiunge che sarebbe stato “scorretto” non prendere in considerazione in maniera significativa i disordini scoppiati nella zona di Ardoyne durante il Twelfth (la parata del 12 luglio) di quest’anno, prima di trarre le proprie conclusioni.
Nicola Mallon, consigliere SDLP per North Belfast, ha dichiarato: “La decisione di non permettere alla deliberatamente offensiva Shankill Star Flute Band, che ricorda il killer UVF Brian Robinson, di passare attraverso Ardoyne e vicino alla casa di una delle sue vittime è da accogliere con favore”.
Anche il parlamentare dello Sinn Féin per North Belfast, Gerry Kelly, ha accolto positivamente la decisione.
“Accolgo con favore il fatto che la Parades Commission abbia preso la decisione di vietare questa banda lealista, che è in sostanza un omaggio a Brian Robinson, di passare dalla zona in cui (Robinson) ha ucciso Paddy McKenna. E’ la decisione giusta”, ha osservato.

No loyalist band in Ardoyne march
A flute band commemorating a loyalist killer will not be allowed to march through Ardoyne next month, the Parades Commission has ruled.
The Parades Commission prohibited the band from marching alongside the Ligoniel Walker Club Apprentice Boys of Derry.
A statement from the commission said: “The band and supporters are prohibited from that part of the notified route between the junction of Crumlin Road and Hesketh Road and the junction of Woodvale Road and Woodvale Parade.”
It says that while the parade’s organisers have never been involved in misbehaviour, nationalist political parties and residents considered the choice of bands “provocative”.
The organisers have also been ordered to make sure the event “begins and disperses promptly”, and that an adequate number of stewards are on hand to keep behaviour “orderly”.
The Parades Commission adds that it would have been “improper” not to give significant consideration to the rioting in the Ardoyne area over the Twelfth this year before drawing its conclusions.
SDLP councillor for north Belfast Nicola Mallon said: “The decision not to allow the deliberately offensive Shankill Star Flute Band, which commemorates UVF Killer Brian Robinson, to pass through Ardoyne and the home of one of his victims is to be welcomed.”
Sinn Féin North Belfast MLA Gerry Kelly has also welcomed the decision.
“I welcome the fact that the Parades Commission has taken the decision to bar this loyalist band, which is in essence a tribute to Brian Robinson, from walking past the area where he murdered Paddy McKenna. It is the right decision”, he said.
