Ardoyne: poliziotto dimentica pistola e munizioni sul letto di un bambino

Un’indagine interna è stata avviata dopo che un agente ha lasciato la pistola e le munizioni in una casa di North Belfast dopo una perquisizione

L’abitazione di Ardoyne appartiene ad un trentanovenne arrestato in precedenza in connessione con l’attività repubblicana nella zona.

Dopo la perquisizione, un poliziotto ha scoperto che un cinturone, contenente la pistola, mancava dalle dotazioni.

Sarebbe stato lasciato sul letto di un bambino.

Venti minuti dopo, la polizia è ritornata nella casa e, con il consenso del proprietario, ha recuperato l’arma.

In una dichiarazione la PSNI ha detto di “gestire la temporanea perdita di questo equipaggiamento in maniera estremamente seria e ha iniziato un’indagine disciplinare interna sulle circostanze dell’accaduto”.

Secondo la polizia non c’erano bambini nella casa al momento dell’abbandono dell’arma.

Il proprietario dell’abitazione ha confermato la volontà di sporgere denuncia al Police Ombudsman.

Ian McCrea, membro del DUP e del Policing Board, ha parlato di incidente “molto preoccupante”.

“Siamo stati fortunati che quest’arma da fuoco non sia caduta nelle mani sbagliate”, ha affermato.

“Gli agenti ricevono l’addestramento e le linee guida da seguire per la gestione e l’utilizzo delle armi da fuoco.

“È palese che in questo caso qualcosa è andato molto storto”.

Il parlamentare dello Sinn Fein Gerry Kelly, anche lui membro del Policing Board, chiede un’inchiesta “breve ed incisiva” sulla questione.

“Non riesco a pensare ad alcuna ragione per cui una pistola venga lasciata sul letto”, spiega.

“Penso che un semplice addestramento base imponga che un agente di polizia non perda mai di vista la sua arma, tranne quando sono fuori servizio”.

PSNI gun left in north Belfast house after raid

An internal PSNI investigation is under way after a police officer left a gun and ammunition in a north Belfast house after a raid.

The house in the Ardoyne area belongs to a 39-year-old man who had been arrested earlier in connection with dissident republican activity.

After the search, an officer discovered that a gun belt, which included a firearm, was missing.

It is believed it had been left on a child’s bed.

Twenty minutes later, police returned to the property and with the consent of the householder retrieved the item.

In a statement the PSNI said they were “treating the temporary loss of this equipment extremely seriously and have commenced an internal disciplinary investigation into the circumstances of the incident”.

The police said there were no children in the house at the time.

The householder has confirmed he intends to make a complaint to the Police Ombudsman.

DUP Policing Board member Ian McCrea said the incident was “deeply worrying”.

“It is fortunate that this firearm did not fall into the wrong hands,” he said.

“Officers are given strict training and guidelines to follow in relation to the deployment and handling of firearms.

“It is clear that in this case something has gone very wrong.”

Sinn Fein assembly member Gerry Kelly, who is also on the Policing Board, has called for a “short, sharp” inquiry into the matter.

“I can’t think of any reason why a gun would be set on the bed,” he said.

“I think basic training would dictate that a police officer would not lose sight of their weapon, except if they were off duty.”
